Eclipse Gazing at Central Elementary!!!
On Monday, April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States, including Dumas. Even though our district is not in the path of totality, we will experience a 96.9% eclipse of the sun. We want our students to witness and be engaged in this extraordinary event, as the next total solar eclipse over our state will not happen until August 2045.
As always, student safety is our top priority. Looking directly at the sun is dangerous - the only safe way to look is through special filters, like the ones in certain "eclipse glasses." We have certified safety glasses for all of our students to wear Monday while outside viewing the eclipse, but we need your help. Please stress to your child that it is crucial to keep the glasses on the entire time he/she is viewing the eclipse. If your child refuses to wear the glasses or takes them off outside, he/she will have to go inside with other students and a teacher.
If you want your child to participate in the outdoor viewing of the eclipse on Monday, April 8, please sign and return this permission slip by Monday morning. If you do NOT want your child to be outside during the eclipse, he/she will remain inside with a teacher and other students, and will view the eclipse online.
